49ers' unlikely revival reverses Lions' history.

When the San Francisco 49ers stunned the Detroit Lions 34-31 in Sunday's NFC Championship Game at Levi's Stadium, it was the culmination of a full-circle event that had begun more than sixty-six years earlier.

Oddly enough, the last time the Lions triumphed on the road in a postseason game was in 1957, when they stunned the 49ers in front of their home supporters by rallying from a 24-7 hole to win 31-27. That game took place in San Francisco.

On Sunday, the tables turned as the Detroit Lions cruised to a 24-7 halftime lead over the San Francisco 49ers.

With 27 second-half points, San Francisco was able to pull off the spoiler role, making this postseason game one of the most memorable for the organization.

With a 17-0 third-quarter lead, the 49ers rallied to get back in the game on a series of unbelievable plays, culminating in a spectacular reception by wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk—one of the most memorable in 49ers postseason history.

Scrambling for 21 yards on third-and-4 from Detroit's 49-yard line with 4:42 left in the fourth quarter, Brock Purdy shook off an interception in the first half to rip off a number of huge plays down the stretch.

The 49ers' comeback victory on Sunday was their second straight playoff game

and it advanced them to Super Bowl LVIII, where they will meet the Chiefs and have a chance to get revenge for their devastating defeat in Super Bowl LIV four years ago.
