Bill Clinton and Barack Obama to raise money with Biden despite age worries. (PART-2)

He continued, “We didn’t make him up or change his wardrobe or have him do push-ups in front of the cameras or anything.” “We often reminded reporters that his schedule was busier than Obama's. He held 100 town halls in New Hampshire and stayed till the last question. He then spoke to reporters all day and worked all night.”

Clinton capitalized on generational disparity more than Obama, notably with a re-election slogan of “Building a Bridge to the 21st Century”. In the Democratic primaries, Obama used “Change” to challenge Hillary Clinton and succeed George W. Bush, who was unpopular.

“He never had any doubt” about his service, Salter added. “He never seemed his age until sick.” In 2017, McCain was diagnosed with brain cancer, ending a possible second term. The Thursday event by Biden's campaign is somewhat unusual. The planning source expects the high-profile evening to sell out with over 3,000 attendees.

A Biden campaign spokesperson said Mindy Kaling will host the Radio City Music Hall program, which will open with comments from first lady Jill Biden and feature musical guests Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michele.

Annie Leibovitz will photograph major donors with the three Democratic presidents. Top donors gave $250,000 and $500,000. The cheapest tickets went for $250. Along with Anna Wintour, Biden-Harris campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg, finance chair Rufus Gifford, and Biden Victory Fund finance chair Chris Korge are arranging the fundraiser.

The Biden, Obama, and Clinton teams have tried to balance how “you look forward and backward at the same time” in Thursday's event, a source said. Obama, Biden, and Clinton will reminisce during Stephen Colbert's talk.

Clinton signed Biden's criminal bill and Violence Against Women Act, two of his biggest Senate achievements. Biden's devoted service as Obama's vice president helped him overcome age and other weaknesses in a crowded 2020 Democratic field.

Beyond standard campaigning, both men may use the Biden team's unorthodox approaches to target younger people. A source termed Thursday's fundraiser part of a “extensive program” for the three commanders in chief in New York, which included a podcast.
