Despite attempts to be less 'divisive,' Kari Lake struggles to abandon MAGA impulses.

Some who opposed Kari Lake for governor in 2022 may imperil her political career this winter. Lake, known as "Trump in heels," could lose her 2024 Senate election if she didn't win over her critics. I never considered myself divisive. Me believing that isn't enough.

Lake posted on social media in December that she needed to prove it and broaden her appeal by avoiding incendiary comments like her joyful declaration that she had driven “a stake through the heart of the McCain machine” — referring to Sen. John McCain, the popular Arizona Republican who died in 2018.

Some influential Arizona Republicans told  that Lake's campaign is getting harder with seven months left. What I hear is, everybody has basically resigned themselves that we'll be stuck with a Ruben Gallego—that's what I hear from all the key players, the big-money people,” Arizona GOP fundraiser Shiree Verdone said of Lake's Democratic Senate opponent. Nobody has stated, ‘Kari Lake will win.’”

Trump's 2016 and 2020 state campaign finance chair and McCain's campaign manager, voted for Lake in 2022. She'll vote for Trump again in 2024 and feels Lake's greatest shot is on his coattails.

“He’s serious. I loved his talk, and I think we all connect, Verdone said. I don't understand Kari's actions.” “81 million votes, my a--.” Lake tweeted about President Joe Biden this month. She called her 2022 election loss “a sham,” labels right-wing provocateur Laura Loomer a “warrior,” and hosts fundraising events with questionable politicians like Roger Stone at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort.

Petsas said Lake's attempts failed because "I don't know one person that she's gotten on her side of the people she offended." No one from my circle has joined her, and she's alienated several former fans.

Over iced tea at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel last winter, Petsas claimed Lake urged her to “unify the party.” Lake should apologize to multiple Republicans, she said.“She couldn’t even say their names,” Petsas said. “She never apologized. She cannot apologize.

After her unsuccessful governor's bid “I have reached out to so many that I can't even name them all, OK, and we're doing great. Many rushed to aid. Because I know the press and we're attempting to solve Arizona's problems, I've avoided discussing my private chats. Lake also wants to win over “gold digger” former governor primary candidate Karrin Taylor Robson.

Robson is yet to endorse a senator. Two sources believe she and Lake are considering a reunion. Lake's actions haven't always matched her campaign team's appeal to cautious voters.
