Edelman, Slater criticize Belichick in 'The Dynasty'

The Patriots' greats criticized the series on Edelman's podcast "Games With Names." Edelman and Slater, interviewed for "The Dynasty," didn't like Bill Belichick being depicted badly.

I know some of my comments made Bill seem like a demanding presence, and he was. I want people to see Bill's many sides "Slater said. It's hard because I think he's depicted a certain way. We're painting a picture, but just displaying part of it.

It's complicated with Coach. I'm sure we all feel like, 'Hey, maybe we wish we had done things this way.' But let's remember that the dynasty isn't even mentioned without Bill Belichick. He did everything intentionally and purposefully, and I think he got the best from us."

Edelman agreed with Slater that Belichick's tough love improved his players on and off the field. "I don't think any 30-year-old football player has liked their coach. He was liked. He stated you didn't like your football coach. "I didn't like my parents when they had me do things they knew would make me better.

"I disliked it—work's hard, preparation, walkthroughs, etc. I whined about it constantly. We needed it. You went into every game thinking you outprepared that team and could win. Every game."

"The Dynasty" has been criticized for portraying Belichick. The docuseries was criticized by former Pats safeties Devin McCourty and Rodney Harrison, as well as team owner Robert Kraft at the NFL owners meetings on Tuesday.

Belichick's legacy as the NFL's greatest head coach remains unaffected by the series. All that matters is his six Super Bowl championships in 20 years for New England, an NFL record that may never be equaled.
