Trade: Eagles acquire Jets standout edge rusher Haason Reddick

In a standoff with edge rusher Haason Reddick, the Eagles traded him to the Jets on Friday for a conditional 2026 3rd-round pick. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the deal and NBC Sports Philadelphia confirmed it. Schefter said the pick becomes a 2nd-rounder if Reddick plays 67.5 percent of the Jets' defensive snaps and has double-digit sacks.

Only two NFL players have had double-digit sacks in all four seasons, including Reddick. Another is Myles Garrett. In his first three seasons with the Cards, Reddick had only 7 ½ sacks. He had 12 ½ sacks in 2020 with Arizona, 11 in 2021 with the Panthers, and 16 and 11 with the Eagles in his two years with them

Before 2022, the Eagles signed Reddick to a three-year, $45 million contract. He has a $14.25 million basic pay for one year. He is the 23rd-highest-paid edge rusher in the NFL with a $15 million average. His 50 ½ sacks since 2020 and 27 sacks in the last two years rank 4th in the NFL.

After failing to sign Reddick, the Eagles signed Jets free agent edge rusher Bryce Huff to a three-year, $51 million deal. Huff has 10 sacks last year. They guaranteed $10 million of Josh Sweat's 2024 salary. Huff, Sweat, Brandon Graham, and last year's 1st-round pick Nolan Smith were back, leaving no room for Reddic

Although renegotiating Reddick's deal seems likely, the Jets did not immediately respond. Reddick this year became the first Eagle with two double-digit sack seasons since Trent Cole in 2010 and 2011. His 27 sacks in two seasons are the highest by an Eagle since 1991 and 1992, when Clyde Simmons had 32 and Reggie White 29

Eagles go from Reddick to Huff, who has only one career 10-sack season. However, Huff is four years younger than Reddick at 25. Reddick is the 10th 2023 Eagles player to leave in free agency. D'Andre Swift and Kevin Byard joined the Bears, Jack Stoll the Giants, Sua Opeta the Bucs, Quez Watkins the Steelers, Nicholas Morrow the Bills, Jack Driscoll the Dolphins, Marcus Mariota and Olamide Zaccheaus the Commanders.

In addition, Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce retired, Avonte Maddox was dismissed, and Zach Cunningham, Justin Evans, Julio Jones, Shaq Leonard, and Bradley Roby are unsigned free agents. The Eagles have cut 21 players who started at least one game last year, including Terrell Edmunds, Kentavius Street, and Christian Ellis.

The Eagles' first player to make the Pro Bowl in every season since Norm Van Brocklin in 1958, 1959, and 1960 is Reddick.
